Get it fixed right the first time!
Diagnostic Services
We have the skills, tools and experience to get to the root of a vehicle's problem and get it fixed right the first time, at a price you can afford.
Chapter 01
A check engine light is a starting point, not a diagnosis
A check engine light means one thing for certain: a sensor somewhere flagged a reading outside its normal range. It does not, by itself, tell you which part to replace. Reading the code and swapping whatever part the code's generic description points at is how a repair ends up fixing nothing while the light comes right back on.
Check engine light analysis at Ayers Automotive means pulling the actual code, then confirming what's really causing it before anything gets recommended. That's the difference between guessing and diagnosing, and it's the step that keeps a customer from paying twice for the same problem.

Full computerized diagnostics, and where the machine stops
Our diagnostic machines can troubleshoot a car quickly, covering performance problems, engine management and the sensor network that runs a modern vehicle, so we can get you back on the road fast. That's the strength of full computerized diagnostics: speed and a wide first look across the car's systems.
But a scan tool reports what a sensor is seeing, not always why. A technician still has to test the wiring, the connector or the mechanical part behind a code before calling it fixed. That's where ASE-certified experience and NAPA AutoCare network training take over from the machine, on every job, not just the difficult ones.
Chapter 03
ABS, airbag and chassis electrical checks
ABS brake systems and airbag systems run on their own dedicated electronics, separate from the engine computer, and each has its own warning light for a reason. An ABS fault can mean the anti-lock function is offline while regular brakes still work fine, which is exactly the kind of problem that shouldn't wait for a routine maintenance visit to get looked at.
Chassis electrical systems checks cover the wiring and grounds that connect all of it together: a corroded connector or a chafed wire under the Kona salt air can trip a code that looks like a sensor failure but is really a connection problem a few inches away. We check both before assuming the expensive part is the one at fault.
Getting to the root, so the same fault does not come back
Getting to the root of a problem the first time is the whole point of a real diagnostic pass, rather than a parts-cannon approach that replaces components until something happens to fix it. It costs less over the full repair, not more, because nothing gets bought and installed on a guess.
Ayers Automotive has run diagnostics this way on Kaiwi Street since 1998, and the same discipline applies whether the complaint is an AC system that's stopped cooling or a light that came on for no obvious reason. Call 808-327-1331 with what the car is doing and we can usually tell you what the next step looks like before you even bring it in.

Root cause, not the part nearest the code
A code points at a system. It doesn't name the part.
That gap between what the scan tool reports and what's actually wrong is where most of a diagnostic technician's real work happens, and it's the same gap that leads some shops to replace parts one at a time until the light goes off. Once the actual cause is confirmed, the fix moves to auto repair with the diagnosis already on file, or to scheduled maintenance if what the code turned up was closer to routine wear than a failure.
