Major or minor repairs?

Auto Repair

From minor repairs to major work, we can handle it all. We explain what we're fixing before we start, on most makes and models, foreign or domestic.

Chapter 01

We explain the repair before we start it

Before anything gets replaced, we walk through what's actually wrong and why it needs the specific repair we're recommending, in plain terms rather than shop shorthand. If a part looks worn but isn't the actual cause of the symptom you came in with, we say so instead of replacing it anyway.

That isn't a script, it's how Ayers Automotive has worked since 1998: honesty and high quality repair standards, treating every customer like family. It's the same approach whether the job is a ten-minute fix or a full afternoon up on the lift, and it's why so many customers keep coming back to the same address on Kaiwi Street instead of shopping around each time.

A car raised on a two-post lift in the Ayers Automotive bay with the front wheel removed and the brake rotor and caliper exposed for repair.

Most makes and models, foreign or domestic

We work on most makes and models of cars, foreign or domestic, so the shop doesn't need to guess at an unfamiliar platform or send you somewhere else because your car isn't the one brand we know best. Our ASE-certified technicians and the training that comes through the NAPA AutoCare network cover the range of what actually shows up in a Kailua-Kona driveway.

Living on the Big Island, waiting on a specific dealer part or a brand-specialist appointment can mean a longer wait than most people want. A local independent shop that already knows common repairs across makes doesn't put you through that wait for the jobs that come in most.

Chapter 03

Brakes, cooling and electrical: the three that come in most

Brake work, cooling system maintenance and electrical system repairs make up a large share of what comes through the door, alongside alternators, fuel pumps and fuel system repairs. Each of those systems fails in a slightly different way, worn pads sound different from a warped rotor, and a slipping alternator belt reads different from a dead battery, so treating them as separate problems rather than one general noise complaint is what actually fixes the car the first time.

When the cause isn't obvious from a look under the hood, that's where a proper diagnostic pass comes in before anything gets recommended, not a part swapped on a guess.

Free estimates, and a state inspection center on site

FREE estimates are available on any repair, so you know what a job involves before committing to it. We are also a state inspection center and provide certified emissions repairs, which means an inspection and whatever it turns up can usually be handled in the same visit instead of sending you across town for a second appointment.

Ayers Automotive is a Hawaii State Licensed Repair Dealer, and every technician working on your car is ASE-certified. Call 808-327-1331 with the year, make and model and what the car is doing, and we'll tell you plainly what we'd need to look at.

Since 1998

The same two names customers keep mentioning.

Customers who've worked directly with Jim and Joe in the bay describe the same thing: a repair explained before it starts, and a straight answer when a part turns out fine and doesn't need touching. That habit has held since the shop opened on Kaiwi Street in 1998, through every kind of job from a quick fix before a flight out to a full engine repair. If the problem hasn't been pinned down yet, our diagnostic services are the place to start before any repair gets recommended.
